Film flaunts pom publisher s First Amendment follies FLYNT from page 16 have been for Flynt. But as Larry and Althea Flynt work their way through the near-insanity they created and invited through Hus tler magazine, it is their friend and lawyer, Alan Isaacman (played by Edward Norton), who maintains at least a little rationality and tolerance. And, in the end, Isaacman becomes the most sympathetic character the film has to offer. He repeatedly works to rescue Flynt — and subsequently all Americans—from censorship ant persecution, only to see any dignity h< has built for himself and his clien shattered by Flynt’s public and court room antics. “The People vs. Larry Flynt” is a well-acted, well-written and carefully orchestrated attempt to humanize a man who very easily could have be come little more than a symbol for both the sex industry and freedom of r m l Film: “The People vs. Larry Flynt” i Director: Milos Forman t Stars: Woody Harrelson, Courtney ■ Love, Edward Norton Rating: R (nudity, language) Grade: A Five Words: Porn publisher gets fair shake speech. And because this film is so well done, it does just that. Seasoned editor extends new-and-improved section STATE from page 16 position last year, and to be per fectly honest I didn’t do a lot to change that when I had the chance. But now I’m back to fulfill the promise I know this section has within its scarred and misshapen belly. And you should care, because if this section does work to its full potential, it can be just as exciting and mind-blowing as a full-color photo of Tom Osborne in tan slacks, an in-depth story about Ben Nelson’s hair or a Steve Willey col umn about an unsavory bodily function. This section will feature fewer and fewer reviews, because who really cares what we think about the new weira ai ramcovic aioum' This section will feature more sto ries about people who live in Lin coln and, miraculously-enough, who are doing something creative in their spare time." And this sec tion will feature more national in terest stories, because the world doesn’t end at the edge of campus, or even at the city limits. And if I can hear just one per son say “Boy, the A&E section didn’t suck too bad today,” I’ll fi nally be able to retire a happy edi tor. And I won’t come back—this time, I promise.
