man in search of an eagle who, along the way,
met what he thought were three strange birds: a
woodpecker, a vulture and a chicken.
The woodpecker knocked everything he
could, the vulture wallowed in the dirt and the
chicken strutted around the barnyard in circles.
Finally the old man found another bird with
a glide in its stride. It was an eagle, which he
taught to stretch its wings and fly high over the
mountains.
reeier said tnese birds reminded her of some
people. The woodpeckers knock down and criti
cize everything, the vultures wallow in gossip
and the chickens have no goals or ambitions —
they just walk in circles.
But the eagles soar, she said.
“How many people are there in this world
who do not know that they are eagles?” she
asked. “The eagles do the right thing, speak out
against wrong, run against the grain.
“Each of us have an eagle inside of us. My
:hallenge to you: Stretch out your wings and
fly.”
