The event, which will be at the Pla
Mor Ballroom, features local artists
Mercy Rule, Sideshow, Rosebud, Ure
thra Franklin, Echoing Green, Klass
K and Peace Nation.
Slamfest will bring together two
crowds of youth, Kauffman said, be
cause two types of bands are playing.
Klass-K and Peace Nation are rap
groups, he said, while the other bands
cater to a rock-oriented crowd.
Ten local youth groups, including
the YWCA, Lighthouse and Upward
Bound, are cosponsoring the all-ages
Along with the concert, Kauffman
and Littlejohn will distribute a publi
cation that describes the bands and the
youth organizations involved.
Kauffman will hand the fliers out at
the show and across town, he said, in
hopes of sparking interest in youth
about the groups.
Kauffman also is organizing a
workshop for young people about
music and the broadcasting industry,
Kauffman has been recording for
about seven years, he said.
Muvement Enterprises became an
official business in April, he said. His
idea for the company started with his
rap show on KRNU, the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln’s radio station.
Part ofMuvement Enterprise’s mis

how to plan events such as Slamfest
Plans for the second and third show
are not final yet, Kauffman said, but
the Oct. 23 second show will be a
concert for ages 18 and under at State

Dr. Jed Hill (Baldwin) has re
cently moved to the small town
where Andy and Tracy live. Hill is
a charismatic trauma surgeon that
works at the same hospital where
Tracy does volunteer work.
Follow so far? Good, because
that’s all that can be said without
giving away too much.
Director Robert Becker (“Sea of
Love,” “Visionquest”) forces the
audience to make leap after leap of
logic and virtually wastes the first
half hour of the film.
Once he gets oVkr that huge
hump, however, the film begins to
pick up speed — and quality. The
last 45 minutes are filled with sus
Unfortunately, the movie’s end
ing is rather predictable.
Kidman and Pullman do all right,
but they looked like they weren’t
sure what to do with their roles or
what direction they were supposed
That’s OK, thpugh, because
Becker obviously couldn’t figure
out what to do with them either.
Alec Baldwin is all smirks and
smugness as the egotistical Hill.
He’s good, he knows it, and he
doesn’t have the slightest desire to
hide it. Baldwin’s character isn’t a
bad guy; he just isn’t the squeaky
clean yutz he usually plays.
While “Malice” does have some
decent suspense toward the end, it
takes too much — and too long —
to get there.
