I— ----—- .I Courtesy of Atlantic Records Genesis’current lineup is Daryl Stuermer, Chester Thompson, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins. Genesis’ musical gems sparkle on first live album in a decade r—- ' D Kf/jAJtAM* '— — “Genesis Live: The Way We Walk” Genesis Atlantic Records Since thccurrcntlincupof Genesis fell into place in 1976, the band has slowly built up a following, moving from cult status to mainstream, with out changing their style drastically. Solo efforts by Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford also have proved to be critical and commercial successes. Best of all, anyone who has seen their work on video knows these guys arc having fun at what they do. Their current get-up—shades, the hailing walk in “I Can’t Dance”— is a refreshing break from some artists who take themselves too seriously. Even when they approach serious topics in their music, they do it with tongue planted firmly in cheek. “Genesis Live: The Way We Walk” was recorded on the band’s 1992 United Kingdom Tour, and is the first live Genesis album since 1982’s “Three Sides Live.” ltcontains such past gemsas “Land of Confusion,” “Mama,” “Jesus He Knows Me,” “Thai’s All,” “Invisible Touch” and “Tonight, Tonight, To night.” The great thing about the tracks is that they sound pretty much like the studio versions, with enough varia tion to make them worth listening to. No extended, annoying drum or guitar solos here. It’s team effort all the way. The only thing that is missing is the famed light and stage show, but the liner notes have full-color photos of the awesome effects, so listeners can use their imaginations. “The Way We Walk” is subtitled “Volume One: The Shorts.” Genesis plans a companion release in January entitled “The Longs”com piled from the same lour. One warning: VolumcTwowillbe available fora limited time only, so be on the lookout and act quickly if you find that one dose of live Genesis isn’t enough. — Sam Kepfield ente^WWient Writing expert Plessix Gray to give free lecture Monday From Staff Reports Prancine du Plcssix Gray, au thor and writing expert, will give a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. today in Doane College’s Heckman Audi torium.
