Frazier completed four of nine passes for 39 yards in the scrimmage. > Grant Continued from Page 11 Grant is no stranger to competing for a starting role. Grant and Mickey Joseph battled two years ago for the starting posi tion. Grant started the first game of the year against Baylor, but a knee injury forced him to miss the next two games and Joseph started all but one game the rest of the season. Grant said the race for the starting position was something he was com fortable with. “It’s competition,” he said. “I’ve never shied away from that.” For Veland, the first 1 1/2 weeks of practice has been less than satisfying. “I’m not where I want to be,” Veland said. “I still have a lot of improving to do and stop making mental mistakes.” After Grant broke his collarbone in spring practice, Veland filled in and emerged as a top candidate for the quarterback spot. But so far, he has yet to regain that level of per formance. “I can’t really tell the difference,” he said. “Maybe I’m not concentrat ing enough or maybe I’m just trying to do things too fast. “It just doesn’t feel the same.” There has also been some pressure on playing well, Veland said. “1 try really not to think about it,” he said. “I’m just trying to do well right now. Hopefully everything will start coming together after a while.” ^MINI-REFRIGERATORS^ ' ^hguaranteed lowest pricesih^J Coupon expires 1-31-93 B t ■ • ] r i ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ 1 (jSjJjQjGjJ RENT-TO-OWN 25TH a OSTBCET.LINCCXN 474-3444 * Remember, all of our Mini-Refrig erators come with FREE LOCAL SERVICE, so you don't have to wait for repairs!
