Business offers evening-toppers Romantic carriage rides make fantasy real By Dionne Seartey Staff Reporter Snowflakes sprinkle the air on a cold moonlit night. A woman in black velvet stands beside her knight in shining armor. They approach a horse-drawn carriage. The driver tips his top hat to the lady as he opens the carriage door. She sits downon theplush, red seal next to the man of her dreams. He leans over and kisses her as white horses slowly take the carriage down brick streets into the night. This fantasy can become a reality in the Haymarket at 7th and P streets. “You can't do this just anywhere,” said Sally Oglesby, program assistant for the --— A lot of people will take rides to see the lights. But ma ny Lincolnites, as well as tourists, have taken advantage of the horse-drawn rides. Oglesby said Four Seasons Carnage Rides, which began in October, has been so busy some nights that a reservation system may need to be developed. Jean Hock, owner of the carriages, said the service gives rides to about. 20 people a night. But, she said, there’s been some nights when no one has come for a ride. “The weather has an awful lot to do with it,” Hock said. Oglesby said she anticipates Christmas time to be busy. “A lot of people will take rides to see the lights. It’s a romantic time of year,” she said. The routes both originate from 7th and P streets, but one route takes about 45 minutes, while the other lasts 25 minutes, Oglesby said. The long ride costs $ 10 and the shorter one is $ 5. “A lot of people celebrating birthdays or anniversaries down in the Haymarket will see us and take a ride. It lops off their evening," Hock said. Four Seasons provides horse-drawn car riage rides Thursday through Saturday, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Carriages also are available by special arrangements for weddings and other events.
