I Kansas retires Gale Savers’ No 48
The University of Kansas an
nounced that it is retiring the No.
48 jersey worn by Gale Sayers.
Sayers, an Omaha Central
graduate who is a member of the
National Football League’s Hall of
Fame, is the third-leading rusher in
Kansas history with 2,675 yards.
^His 99-yard run against the Ne
braska Comhuskers in 1963 is a
school record.
, Sayers spent seven seasons with
the NFL s Chicago Bears before
retiring in 1972.

tion announced that it will stage 5
and 10-kilometer runs on Oct. 15.
Persons interested in competing
in either run should arrive at 38th
Street and East Campus Loop at
least 15 minutes before the runs

begin. The runs will start at 1*30
p.m.
The defending champions in
me run are Kurt Meyer and Laurie
Sandall in the men’s and women’s
5-kilometer competition, and
Frank Lee and Sylvia Wiegand arc
the defending 10-kilometer
champs.
