Huskers used defense to hold off Jayhawks, Nee says NEE From Page 6 first half and Nebraska leading 28-19. “We wanted to go in (the locker room) with control of the game,” Nee said. “At least a 10-point lead.” The Huskers led 39-23 at half. Nebraska benefited from its solid defense to hold off the Jayhawks, Nee said. The Huskers forced Kansas lo commit 20 turnovers while holding the Jayhawks lo 44.2 percent shoot ing from the field. Kansas entered Saturday’s game shooting 54.1 percent and commit ting 16 turnovers per game. “Our man-to-man and zone de fense this week was soiiu,” Nee said. Nee also discussed the team Kan sas defeated to win last year’s NCAA title -- Oklahoma. The Sooncrs, ranked No. 1 in last week’s Associ ated Press poll, dropped a 77-73 deci sion Saturday to Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. Oklahoma will face Missouri, ranked No. 5 last week, Thursday in Norman, Okla. Nee, who said Missouri got his vote for No. 1 in this week’s poll, wasn’t offering predictions on Thurs day’s game. “That’s a tough one,” he said. “1 don’t know.” The Big Eight, Nee said, is better overall than last year, when five teams qualified for the NCAA tour nament. “From top to bottom it is,” he said. “Idon’tknow ifwecanhave the banner year, the premier year wc had last year, but it’s more competitive from top to bottom.” Nebraska’s next game is on Wednesday, when the Huskers face Colorado.
