X Tuesday, April 1, 1986 xtrava Bits Daily Nebraskan Page 3 offers y fun By Andy Pollock Staff Reporter An upcoming extravaganza of games and entertainment will offer UNL stu dents an opportunity to improve their mental, emotional and physical health, said coordinator Alan Sands. Everyone is encouraged to partici pate in the Health for All All for Ilealth challenge, Sands said. Sands described the event, April 12 to 1!3, as a cross between a three-ring circus, state fair and track meet. It features nationally known speakers, comedians and other celebrities, plus a number of workshops and athletic events, he said. One of the comedians scheduled to appear at the Bob Devaney Sports Cen ter is Lou Goldstein. Goldstein has entertained celebrities with his "Simon Says" routine on television shows such as "The Super Stars" and "Battle of the Network Stars." A number of other speakers will present ideas for mental, physical and emotional relaxation, Sands said. For example, Ellen Rosenberg, author of "Ellen Rosenberg's Growing Up Feel ing Good," will conduct a program designed to help people learn to feel better about themselves, communicate better and deal with day-to-day feelings and pressures more effectively. Rowdy Gaines, Olympic record-setter in the 100-meter freestyle swimming sprint, and former UNL gymnasts Scott Johnson and Steve' Elliot, will perform and conduct workshops at thd extrava ganza. Sporting events and other activities will give people a chance to actually participate in the extravaganza, Sands said. The sporting events, in which competition is downplayed, include tennis, soccer, volleyball and a number of "New Games." "New Games" are a number of activ ities in which all participants, no mat ter how athlet ically skilled, are equal. Ron Hager of Lincoln is the creator of "New Games" and will introduce them at the extravaganza. Tickets for the extravaganza go on sale today in the Nebraska and East Unions and will be sold until the event. Tickets are on sale also at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Student tickets are $5. UNL organizations may receive a commission of up to 30 percent for tickets they sell, Sands said. The UNL Office of Financial Aid will be among the organizations that receive some money raised by the extravaganza, he said. Sands said that he hopes the event, which is receiving national media attention, will be successful enough to be put on at other sites around the nation. Digest Tax help Beta Alpha Psi will offer an income tax service to students free in the Nebraska Union today, on April 8, 10 and 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. and in the East Union on April 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. Honors convocation The 58th Annual All University Honors Convocation will be Friday, April 11, in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
