Summer aid forms,
class registrations
are dye this month
Daily Nebraskan
By Carol Harrah
Staff Reporter
Students must turn in summer
school registration forms and financial
aid applications this month, said Pegjy
West, assistant director of student
employment in the Scholarships and
Financial Aid Office.
March 3 1 is the deadline to apply for
summer financial aid, and early regis
tration for Summer and Fall classes is
March 17 to April 4.
the pre-session, the eight-week session
and the . first session is May 15. For
students attending the first and second
sessions or the second session only, the
deadline is July 1.
"To receive a GSL, there is a later
deadline since they have a back-door
deadline," West said. "But the sooner a
student fills out the loan application,
the sooner they receive the money for
the summer session they attend."
Financial aid also is offered during
the summer to students not attending

West said students applying for
summer financial aid need to follow
three guidelines:
Decide on specific classes and
sessions.
O Register for classes before April
4.
West said undergraduates generally
need to take three credit hours during
the summer for part-time status.
O File a Financial Aid form before
March 31 to speed up delivery of
money.
Summer school students who have
submitted a 1985-86 FAF or a form for
the 1986 fall semester don't need to fill
out another FAF, West said.
Summer school students also can
apply for Guaranteed Student Loans.
But, West said, students who plan to
attend only the summer pre-session are
ineligible for GSLs.
The GSL application deadline for
summer school, West said. For exam
ple, she said, students may receive a
full-time work -study job for the summer.
"Most of these full-time positions
are with nonprofit organizations and
government agencies around Lincoln,"
West said. "There are some with the
extension services around the state.
Then a student might be able to live at
home and have a full-time work-study
job there as well."
Graduate students may apply for
work-study positions, West said. But
grant funds are strictly undergraduate,
she said.
Early registration packets for the
summer sessions and fall semester are
available by the information desk in
the Nebraska Union, the East Union
and at Administration Building Win
dow 5.
Financial Aid Forms and Guaran
teed Student Loan forms are available
in Administration 113.
