King Staff Reporter A U.N. expert will speak Thursday at UNL as part of United Nations Week to observe the 40th anniversary of the International peace-maker. U.N. Week began Saturday and will end Friday. Jack Smith, senior associate direc tor of the Iowa Stanley Foundation, will talk about foreign policy issues and the need to secure world peace by streng thening the United Nations. Tom Hudgens, a vice president of the Campaign for U.N. Reform, spoke Sat urday as part of U.N. Week. "It's a worldwide event," said Albert Schrekinger, a past professor of social work at UNL Schrekinger, who helped the Lin coln U.N. Association, described Hud gens as a "global citizen" who wants to strengthen the United Nations, "He realizes how small the world is how precious it is," Schrekinger said. Hudgens related a method by which he thinks the threat of a war between the United States and Soviet Union could be eliminated: "If Russia would send 500,000 of their children to live in America, and we would send 500,000 of our children to live in Russia, which of the two super pow ers would dare bomb their own children?" United Nations so it can be stronger in securing peace by non violent means, Schrekinger said, Hudgens spoke Saturday on "Let's Abolish War," the same title as his recently published book. United Nations day, which is Thurs day, and U.N. Week activities are ob served in 50 nations that have U.N. associations, said the Rev. Howard Hol verson, Lincoln U.N. Association presi dent. The Lincoln U.N.A. is one of 175 chapters in the United States, he said.
