The word is out.
The Lincoln Police Department is
cracking down on unpaid parking
tickets.
Norman Langemach, chief city pro
secutor, said if a parking ticket is not
paid within five days of its issue, the
fine goes up. After 15 days, the car is
put on a tow list. ,
With delinquent parking tickets, the
court tows the car instead of looking
for the offender, he said.
The consequences are worse for
people who don't pay up tickets for

moving traffic violations, Langemach
said.
"If a moving violation is not paid, the
violator will be cited for failure to
appear in court," Langemach said. For
failing to appear, offenders are fined
$33 and may receive a jail sentence.
The Lincoln Municipal Court recently
indicated that the number of delin
quent tickets is rising and asked the
police to increase enforcement, said
Capt. Jim Baird.
Don Carnes, Lincoln City Auditor,
said the city had about $25,000 in
unpaid parking tickets as of Aug. 1. Of
that total, $17,467 were from cars regis
tered outside of Lancaster County,
Carnes said. At that time, 5 1 9 cars were
on the city's tow list. The auditor's
office has been in charge of naririn,.
violations since July.
Langemach said that if people don't
pay traffic tickets and are cited for
failure to appear in court, they will be
arrested and jailed. If bond cannot be
posted, offenders will spend the night
in jail and be tried in the morning, he
said.
If people don't have the time or
money to appear in court, they should
contact the court and have the time
changed or fill out a time payment
form, Langemach said.
"It is a lot cheaper than paving an
extra $35 fine," he said.
The court allows a time payment
plan if offenders don't have bad pay
ment records, he said.
