You're wearing the lstost stla with
oh-so-chic accessories, The mousse
holds your every hair in place. You're
all dressed up, now where do you go?
Lincoln has a variety of bar3 that
offer live entertainment for dancing
and listening. So, regardless if your
tastes are AC DC or Count Basle there's
something for you to enjoy. Five night
clubs that exemplify the scops of mus
ical entertainment available in Lincoln
are P.O. Pear3, Tha Royal Grove, Mc
Gufeys, the Zoo Ear and the Drum
stick. P.O. Pears, 322 S. Ninth St., now offers
live entertainment Thursday through
Saturday. Ben Brett, general manager,
said that he chooses band3 heeding
suggestions from friends and co-workers
and also tries to see a band perform
before booking them. Charlie Burton
and the Cutouts and Why Not? have
played at Pears. Exciter (Top-40), The
Switch (reggae), Caribe (reggae, island
music) and the Alpha Street Band are
all scheduled for upcoming dat es. Cover
charge is 89 cents and Brett said crowd
response has been good.
The newly remodeled Royal Grove,
340 W. Comhusker Highway, features a
gigantic stage, pool tables, snack bar,
swimming pool and hot tub. The club
features a different band each week
(usually rock or power pop), with no
cover charge. They also sponsor head
line acts from time to time. Past shows
featured Pat Benatar, The Suburbs and
Head East. The Blasters are scheduled
for April 23 and Paul Butterfield, April
on
At McGuffey's, 1042 P St., Thursday
is Jazz Night. McGufTey's aficionados
should "take the A-train" to get an
earful of vintage improvlsatlonal jazz
performed by many of the region's bst
musicians and there's no cover charge.
The Zoo Bar, 135 N. 14th St., is an
internationally known blues haven.
Blues greats like Luther Allison, Eddy
Clearwater and Magic Slim have played
the Zoo. A number of rock-a-billy and
rhythm-and-blues band3 from Texas
and Missouri have found their way to
the Zoo, including The Lerol Erothers,
Anson Funderbur and the Rockets, and
Johnny Reno and the Sax Maniacs.
Cover charge varies.
On any given night the Drumstick,
547 N. 47th St., plays host to local "gar
age" bands or a national headline like
REM, X, Jason and The Scorchers, the
Violent Femmes or Modern English.
Weekends are booked with some of the
Midwest's best dance bands like Boys
with Toys or The Model Citizens Club.
Cover charges vary.
