An added benefit of having a license can be the service you can perform for friends and relatives. Schlegelmilch, who has a commercial pilot's license, said he often has people ask him to fly them places, with a good rate of pay. With a private pilot's license you can be tipped and have your expenses paid, but a formal salary would be illegal. Some people, like Schlegelmilch, just like to fly. He said that his desire to fly was the main thing that led him to flight school.
