Kim Grabowski and Terri airman placed second
and fourth in the all-around and Jodie Twoey won
the vault as Nebraska's women's gymnastics team
easily out-distanced the rest of a seven-team field to
win the NCAA's Midwest Regional clmmpionship
Saturday at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
The victory was the first regional win in the team's
history.
Nebraska finished with 1 78.15 points, while
Minnesota was a distant second with 174.08.
Nebraska qualified for the NCAA championships,
which will be April 7-9 at the University of Utah in
Ogden.
Twoey was the only individual winner for the Corn
huskcrs, scoring a 9.45 on the vault. Grabowski finished
second at 9.40; Furman was fourth with a 930.
Grabowski finished second in the floor exercise with
a 9.45 score; Renee Bosle was sixth with a 9.20. Twoey
finished seventh, live-tenths of a point ahead of
teammates Char Magemann and Furman, who both
posted a 9.1 .
Grabowski finished behind Minneosta's Robin
Huebner in the all-around, scoring a 36.60; Huebner
scored 36.95. Furman totaled a 35.70 to capture fourth.
Nebraska finished eighth in last year's championships
after earning an at-large berth in the 12-team field.

Nebraska's men's swimming team finished its season
Saturday with a 27th-place f inish in the NCAA swimming
and diving championships at Indianapolis.
Nebraska scored a total of six points in the meet,
which was won by the University of Florida.
"We were a little disappointed that we didn't score
more points," Nebraska coach Ca! Bent, said. The
lluskers did improve on a 30th-place finish last year.
Cliff Looschen was Nebraska's standout performer,
earning All-American status in the 100-yard backstroke
and a'i part of the 400-year medley relay team. Fail
Welliver, Jim Korff and Tim Brinner made up the rest of
the relay team.
Dave Goodwin also earned All-American honors on the
one-meter diving competition. He placed 11th with a
score of 459.70.
Bent said Kevin Weires, who had qualified tor the
meet in the 200-yard freestyle and in three relays, did
not compete at Indianapolis because of an illness.

Nebraska's Big Eight baseball opener against Missouri
was snowed out Saturday and Sunday and won't be made
up unless the four games figure in the conference race.
The Cornhuskers are 20-0 and broke a school record
for consecutive victories over spring break.
Nebraska is scheduled to open their Big Eight season
next weekend at Manhattan against Kansas State and are
scheduled to meet Kearney State in a double-header at
Buck Beltzer field Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m.
The lluskers, who are off to their best start ever,
are ranked eighth in the nation. Oklahoma State was
favored to win the conference race this season, with
Nebraska second.
