Guidelines for budget
passed by NU Regents
The NU Board of Regents covered a
wide range of issues during its June and
July meetings, voting on over 50
motions and resolutions.
Guidelines for the 1982-83 operating
budget request passed by a vote of 6-1,
with Regent Robert Prokop abstaining.
Included in the guidelines are;
-A recommendation for a 10 per
cent increase in university staff salaries.
-A request for additional salary in
crease, funds to eliminate existing salary
inequities for selected faculty.
-A recommendation for tuition rate
increases similar to those enacted for
the 1981-82 school year - a 10 percent
increase for undergraduates; a 10 per
cent increase for graduate students plus
a $2 per credit hour increase; a 15 per
cent increase for students in the schools
of medicine, dentistry, and law, and a
10 percent increase for pharmacy stu
dents. Two emergency motions were passed
during the meetings, both moved by
Regent Robert Simmons. The first
authorized the purchase of word
processing equipment for the College of
Business Administration. The second
authorized leasing City Union space to
the National Bank of Commerce of
Lincoln for a customer bank terminal
to replace the Gateway Bank office.
Failing with a resolution introduced
by Student Regents Florence Langford
and Rick Mockler calling for informal
public mettings at various campus sites
to increase exposure and exchange be
tween the board and students. A motion
to hold one experimental meeting also
failed.
Simmons raised the possibility of
making refundable all Fund B student
fees, which support student health,
recreation, and the student unions. His
proposal will be considered at the Sept.
8 meeting. Pending until November is
recommendation by UNL Chancellor
Martin Massengale concerning engineer
ing education in Omaha.
The regents are in recess during August.
