Wednesday, august 19,1981 daily nebraskan page 1 1 Guidelines for budget passed by NU Regents The NU Board of Regents covered a wide range of issues during its June and July meetings, voting on over 50 motions and resolutions. Guidelines for the 1982-83 operating budget request passed by a vote of 6-1, with Regent Robert Prokop abstaining. Included in the guidelines are; -A recommendation for a 10 per cent increase in university staff salaries. -A request for additional salary in crease, funds to eliminate existing salary inequities for selected faculty. -A recommendation for tuition rate increases similar to those enacted for the 1981-82 school year - a 10 percent increase for undergraduates; a 10 per cent increase for graduate students plus a $2 per credit hour increase; a 15 per cent increase for students in the schools of medicine, dentistry, and law, and a 10 percent increase for pharmacy stu dents. Two emergency motions were passed during the meetings, both moved by Regent Robert Simmons. The first authorized the purchase of word processing equipment for the College of Business Administration. The second authorized leasing City Union space to the National Bank of Commerce of Lincoln for a customer bank terminal to replace the Gateway Bank office. Failing with a resolution introduced by Student Regents Florence Langford and Rick Mockler calling for informal public mettings at various campus sites to increase exposure and exchange be tween the board and students. A motion to hold one experimental meeting also failed. Simmons raised the possibility of making refundable all Fund B student fees, which support student health, recreation, and the student unions. His proposal will be considered at the Sept. 8 meeting. Pending until November is recommendation by UNL Chancellor Martin Massengale concerning engineer ing education in Omaha.
