In :nllitinn. lie has served as VV: By Roger Aden Kent Warneke and Dorecn Charles were named the outstanding student leaders on the UNL campus at a formal announcement Iriday by Dean of" Student Affairs David DeCoster. DeCoster said the selection committee of student affairs educators and student organization presidents "felt good" about the selection (of Warneke and Charles). "They were proud about selecting two students who truly exemplify leader ship role models," DeCoster said. Warneke and Charles, both juniors, will receive an award that will pay for next year's tuition, said DeCoster. Warneke, a journalism major and political science major from Plainview, is a member of Farmhouse fraternity and editor of Greek Graffiti, one of the top three Greek-affiliated newspapers in the country. In addition, he has served as Walnnn.. isnacht chairman. New Student Orientat ion student host and is associate editor of Pearls and Rubies, the Farmhouse international magazine. Charles is a journalism major from Chicago involved in ASUN and the Stu dent Y Board. She is president of the Afrikan People's Union and ran for ASUN president this spring. She also has participated in the Resi dence Hall Association and the Afro American Collegiate Society. Charles said she was "surprised and honored" by her selection. "I think it (the award) is an inspiration for people to get involved," she said. "It should encourage student activity." Warneke, too, said he was honored. "It's proof that students without any special talents can make a contribution just by their willingness to participate," he said. "I just wish more people would get involved." l . I J . i , f.
