Bentz: Second-place win is boost of confidence
By Deb McGinn
Saturday's Nebraska Invitational should help the
Husker swimming and diving team gain confidence,
according to Coach Cal Bentz.
The Cornhuskers placed second in the five-team meet
with 451 points. Southern Illinois was first with 454
points. Kansas placed third with 379, followed by Iowa
State and Minnesota with 284 and 1 99, respectively.
"I feel that we have worked hard and our team is be
ginning to gain confidence in what they are doing," Bentz
said. "They are realizing that they can control their own
performances."
Tim Boyd won the 200-meter freestyle for the Huskers
with a time of 1:43. 15. Steve Elliot was the only other
Nebraskan to win an event, lie won the three-meter diving
event with 524.70 points.
Nebraska diving captain Dave Kcane said he was
pleased with the team's showing against what he consider
ed to be tough competition.
"We went against one of the best divers in the nation
from Southern Illinois," Keene said. "The best thing we
did in this meet was that we never gave up."
Although pleased with the performance, diving coach
Jeff Iluber said there is still room for improvement.
"We've done better as an entire team," Huber said.
"We did show a lot of improvements that we've been
working on.
"We've got some tough meets coming up. We can't
relax," he said.

Jack Moore with 16. Smith fouled out with 7:22 remain
ing in the game.
