Nebraska-Missouri coverage 'up in the air'
The chances of a televised Nebraska-Missouri football
game probably were lessened when ABC decided to cover
the Tigers' game with Kansas State, according to UNL
Assistant Sports Information Director . Bill Bennett.
"ABC says they have televised games back to back,"
Bennett said, "but we would feel more comfortable about
it if Missouri wasn't going to be on (television) this week
end." The method of selecting televised games has changed in
recent years, according to Don Bernstein, ABC college
football media director.
Many of the games were announced before the season
began, but now, nearly all are announced on the Monday
prior to the game.
"Everything is up in the air right now. There is a very,
very strong possibility that we may go national on Nov. 1
with the South Carolina-Georgia game," Bernstein said.
"If we do go national with that game, we probably won't
be showing any other games that day.
"If we decide to go with regional coverage, the Nebraska-Missouri
game would certainly be one of the games we
would consider.
ABC is also faced with a difficult decision on Nov. 22.
Ohio State-Michigan, Oklahoma-Nebraska, Baylor-Texas
and Florida-Florida State are all games which could be
televised that weekend, Bernstein said.
"Our options are many. We might go with two of the
four or any other combination of games," he said.
Although covering the Nebraska game at Iowa State
would be a possibility on Nov. 15, Bernstein said ABC
hasn't done too much planning for that weekend.
A decision on the coverage of the Nebraska-Missouri
will be made Monday, he said.

Coach sees tough Big Eight meet
The UNL Women's Cross Country team is ready to
compete in this weekend's Big Eight Conference meet at
the University of Missouri campus, according to Head
Coach Linda Zeck.
Zeck, however, said the team wili be in tough competi
tion. Iowa State, which has never lost a conference
championship, will be the team to beat, she said. Zeck
said she also expects Kansas State, Missouri and Okla
homa to battle for the top spot.
Competing for the Huskers at the conference meet will
be Lisa Kramer, Sarah Strieker, Tammy Essingtcn, Pam
Schubarth, Nancy Popkin, Sally SnelJerand and Julie
Seton.
"I very much want to improve on last year's perfor
mance," she said, 'individually, I would be very happy if
Lisa (Kramer) and Sarah (Strieker) could get into the top
10."
Zeck said the team has usually been near the bottom of
the conference standings, but added, "We hope to change
that.
"This is close to being our best season ever," she said.
"Our girls are ready to run."
