Coffee house offers music
without alcohol, smoke
The Glory. Barn may be just the place
you're looking for if you want live music
without alcohol and smoke in the room.
The Glory Barn is a non -denomination-al,
indepcndant, evangelical coffee house
located one block north of 84th and Vine
Street. It is the brainchild of Chris John
son, a UNL music senior. He along with
his wife, Lori, and three couples co-manage
it as an alternate to the bar scene.
4Wc wanted a place where you could
have fun, fellowship and still enjoy good
music," Johnson said.
It isa Bring Your Own situation -but in
a different way. You bring something to
sit on instead of something to drink. Extra
blankets are supplied for those who are un
prepared. Hay, straw and blankets cover the floor.
About the only thing missing was the ani
mals. The entertainment varies each week,
from local groups with some UNL alumni
to groups from as far away as California.
Admission is free.
Saturday's singer was Paul Blanchard, a
Kearney State singer, who sang and played
some original pieces on his guitar, as well
as pieces by Bruce Cockbum and Jazz
guitarist Terry Talbort.
The audience was a mixture of teen
agers to middle-aged couples.
This Thursday the Glory Barn, the
Potters House in Seward and KBUL.
Radio are co-sponsoring Daybreak, a new
wave (reggae), contemporary gospel group
from Pennsylvania. A local group, Hope,
which includes some UNL alumni, will be
the opening act. The free concert will be
7:30 pjn. at First Baptist Church, 14th &
K.
The Glory Barn will be moving Oct. 11
to the corner of 25th & S Streets, until a
permanent location can be found.
"We are booked up until the end of the
year and are really excited that the Ray
LaFevera Band out of Indiana will be ap
pearing here in November," Johnson said.
