ASUN resolul
Pub Board in Coe dispute
By Patti GaBagher
A resolution supporting the action of
the UNL Publications Board in dealing
with the James Coe letter disclosure was
passed from new business to old business,
Wednesday night at the ASUN Senate
meeting.
The resolution, passed on a 17-13-1 ,
vote, stated in part that the "Senate con
demns the regents' resolution" (asking for
further action on the incident), and "con
demns the regents' threat to amend the
UNL bylaws concerning the Publications
Board."
The regents said at their Friday meeting
that action might be taken to restructure
the Publications Board.
The Senate heard from two Publications
Board members, Chairman Mark Bowens
ind Board Member Hubert Brown, review
;d action taken by the board and' the NU
Board of Regents in the handling of the
ASUN President Renee Wessels said she
net Wednesday with Interim Chancellor
Robert Rutford and others to discuss the
natter.
Wessels also said she agreed with the
iction in the incident, saying, "the board
Jcted in a very judicious manner."
In other action, a resolution requiring
ill students to take six hours of ethnic and
Aromen studies courses was killed on the
Senate floor and moved into committee.
The resolution would require the cours
;s to be included as part of each student's
regular social science or humanities require
nents. It would not, however, require stu
dents to take any additional hours in social
sciences or humanities than is presently
nandated by their college.
