"Great skiing conditions" was the
general consensus of representatives of all
the major ski slopes in Colorado. However,
depending on when you are planning to
ski, finding lodging could be a problem.
Mimi Teschner, Snowmass ski school
information director, said anyone planning
on skiing that hasn't made reservations for
lodging, should probably wait until after
Jan. 5. She said that Aspen population
usually jumps from the normal 8,000 to
30,000 during Christmas. By going skiing
after Jan. 5, students would also get low
season rates, she added.
Sam McCrea, director of marketing for
the Aspen Chamber of Commerce, said he
expected fewer skiiers this year than in
previous years because of the energy situa
tion ; '
Winter Park also reported excellent ski
ing with a 32 to 43 inch snow base.
f Kay , Fleming, an employee, of Winter
Park, said besides skiing, students could
take snow tours, go innertube sleighing,
snow mobiling or cross country skiing. The
bars, she said, are as good as usual. 1. .
v Mary Miller, an employee for central re
servation at Winter Park, said most lodgings
have been booked "for the last three
months, but said that after Jan. 10 there
shouldn't be any problem finding lodging.
Winter Park has about 6,000 guests booked
over the Christmas holidays.
Peggy Gengler, secretary for food and
beverages at Keystone, said besides great
skiing conditions, students could go ice
skating or cross country skiing. She said
evening socializing included live music,
good food and good bars.
Ski lift tickets range anywhere from $16
at Snowmass to $12 at Winter, Park with
reduced prices for multi-day lift tickets.
Ski, pole, and boot rentals range between
$7.50 and $9.50 depending on the slope,
witli. reduced prices for multi-day use.
