However, depending on when you are planning to ski, finding lodging could be a problem. Mimi Teschner, Snowmass ski school information director, said anyone planning on skiing that hasn't made reservations for lodging, should probably wait until after Jan. 5. She said that Aspen population usually jumps from the normal 8,000 to 30,000 during Christmas. By going skiing after Jan. 5, students would also get low season rates, she added. Sam McCrea, director of marketing for the Aspen Chamber of Commerce, said he expected fewer skiiers this year than in previous years because of the energy situa tion ; ' Winter Park also reported excellent ski ing with a 32 to 43 inch snow base. f Kay , Fleming, an employee, of Winter Park, said besides skiing, students could take snow tours, go innertube sleighing, snow mobiling or cross country skiing. The bars, she said, are as good as usual. 1. . v Mary Miller, an employee for central re servation at Winter Park, said most lodgings have been booked "for the last three months, but said that after Jan. 10 there shouldn't be any problem finding lodging. Winter Park has about 6,000 guests booked over the Christmas holidays. Peggy Gengler, secretary for food and beverages at Keystone, said besides great skiing conditions, students could go ice skating or cross country skiing. She said evening socializing included live music, good food and good bars. Ski lift tickets range anywhere from $16 at Snowmass to $12 at Winter, Park with reduced prices for multi-day lift tickets.
