I knew he would get a lot of mileage out of it, so I didn't mind buying him the expensive gas. The trouble started when we went on our first vacation together. It was then that I realized that my beloved car was an oiloholic. It pains me to even think about it. I'd never seen a car down Trop-Arctic like that. And when I was reluctant about buying it for him, he got -ugly. I finally found my self buying cases of cheap supermarket motor oil and half wishing I'd listened to my parents. But my pride got the better of me, and I went on feeding his vile habit. As if things couldn't get worse, along came state in spection time. That was the real shocker. I was flabbergasted. I knew then that he needed professional help. Sick at heart, I began to contemplate sending my Ralph to a garage. j IT WASNT EASY, overcoming my own fears and pride, but I knew that Ralph needed me to be strong for him -and so I was. And when I handed his keys over to that mechanic, I knew I was doing the right thing. It has been awhile, now, and Ralph still isn't over all his problems. In fact, he may never be. But that's O.K. I can deal with it now. We've lost that first starry-eyed gaiety of our summer romance, but weVe gained some things too. I realize Ralphy may be on his last set of tires, and all I want to do is make his last years happy for both of us. The way gas prices are going, I won't be able to afford premium much longer anyway. And when that happens, I guess IH just have to let him go to that great autobahn in the sky. Come what may, I will always know that he was my first. E!oodisi::o Pccoiicn A Z 2 la auay.
