places as Russia, Japan, and
Germany are tested Here,
Splinter said.
The tractors are tested
for such things as horse
power, fuel consumption,
and noise levels, he said.
The annex was built
because newer tractors will
not fit in the existing build
ing. The additional space
will allow an increase in the

Two instructors receive national awards
Two UNL agriculture instructors were honored re
cently for outstanding service to their professions.
Alex Martin, an associate professor of agronomy is
one of eight persons nationally to be cited by the
CIBA-Geigy Corporation, a major manufacturer of
herbicides. Martin received the 1980 CIBA-Gelgy
Award In Agronomy.
He was cited for his research and extension efforts
In week control. Martin coordinates week science at
UNL and has been a professor here since 1972.
LaVern E. Stetson received a distinguished service
award from the Food and Energy Council at its annual
conference Aug. 15 in Atlanta, Ga.
Stetson, an assistant professor of agricultural engin
eering, was chosen from several nominees for his
efforts emphasizing the interdependence of food and
energy. His studies involved developing more efficient
ways of using energy, especially electrical energy.
