free public concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Kimball Mall.
Dr. Robert A. Emile will conduct a program including
works by Rossini, Mozart and Glazounow.
Soloist with the orchestra will be senior soprano Denise
Hurley.
The Saturday night concert is a change from the
Sunday afternoon schedule followed by the university
symphony in the past several years. One Saturday night
and one Sunday afternoon program will be presented
each semester, Emile said.
The symphony also will accompany two operas and
two oratorios presented by the School of Music.
Orchestral works on the Saturday night program will
include the overture from Gioacchino Rossini's opera
"The Thieving Magpie," and "Symphony No. 5, Opus
55" by 20th century Russian composer Alexandre Glaz
ounow. Hurley will sing two arias from Mozart's opera "The
Marriage of Figaro."
Dr. Emile said this year's university symphony includes
a number of outstanding young instrumentalists.
"Quite a few of our top players are not music majors.
They continue a succession of students in other fields
who are dedicated to spending the rehearsal and personal
