Six-day auction

About 2,000 items will have been on the television

Items and services each worth more than $30 in donor

This fifth annual event features items from more than

Some of the major items to be auctioned this year in

SHOOTING THE
CHANDELIER
1
Edward Fox and Denholm Elliott
are featured in David Mercer's
'Shooting the Chandelier, a provoca
tive new drama set in April 1945, just
as the Czech people paused in limbo
between the excesses of Nazism and
the prospect of socialism. The play
airs on the PBS series 'Great
Performances' on Wednesday. May
10.
Somewhere in the Czech country
side, a young girl (Felicity Dean,
pictured) emerges from a bomb
shelter to find that the war has finally
passed her home. She is deranged by
the war and the sole survivor of a
liberal, wealthy family. At the same
time, further down the road, Semyon
Rusakov (Denholm Elliott), suffering
from a hangover, is struggling out of
a ditch when Col. Nikolai Schotkin
(Edward Fox) and his driver (Alun
Armstrong) pull up in their jeep.
The characters converge on the
girl's family's estate for the final,
harrowing confrontation between the
cynical Rusakov and the hardened
pragmatist Schotkin. The climax
takes the form of a new parlor
game shooting the chandelier.
