Annie Hall' wins
Oscar celebrated his 50th
birthday Monday night and
except for an incident
which made a few people
feel uncomfortable, it was
a pretty successful party.
Vanessa Redgrave, while
accepting the award for best
actress in a supporting role,
took the opportunity to
speak out on her pro-Palestinian
stand and was
greeted with a scattering of
boos from the audience.
Redgrave, who has made
a pro-Palestinian documen
tary film, was met on arrival
at the awards presentation
by Arab and Jewish demon
strators. At the podium
Redgrave denounced the
Jewish demonstrators as "a
small faction of Zionist
hoodlums."
Playwright Paddy
Cheyevsky, before present
ing a screenwriting award,
gave Redgrave a bawling
out, saying, "Miss Redgrave's
winning an academy award
is not a pivotal event in
history. A simple thank you would have been sufficient."
Jason Robards won a supporting actor award for his
role in Julia. It was Robard's second Oscar in two years.
He won last year for All the President's Men.
Star Wars, the highest grossing movie of all time, did
what Jaws did three years ago, collecting seven Oscars but

honor for best movie. Allen also won Oscars for best

Diane Keaton won the award for best actress and
Richard Dreyfess won best actor for his role in The
Goodbye Girl.
Composer John Williams won the Oscar for best ori
ginal score in Star Wars, beating out himself. He also was
nominated for his work in Close Encounters of the Third
Kind.
Many Steve Martin fans may have been disappointed
when his comedy short. The Absent-minded Waiter, was
aced out by ' Find a Way, a short film about handi
capped children.

'Golan,' the second program in the
series 'Arabs and Israelis,' encores
Thursday, April 13 on PBS. The Golan
Heights, an area of about 150 square
miles reaching in a bow from the foot
of Mt. Hermon to the Sea of Galilee,
was Syrian territory until it was
captured " by Israel in the 1967
war.

'Golan' also deals with the Palestin

and originally broadcast on PBS in
February and March of 1975. It won
an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Univer
sity Award in Broadcast
