Vanessa Redgrave, while accepting the award for best actress in a supporting role, took the opportunity to speak out on her pro-Palestinian stand and was greeted with a scattering of boos from the audience. Redgrave, who has made a pro-Palestinian documen tary film, was met on arrival at the awards presentation by Arab and Jewish demon strators. At the podium Redgrave denounced the Jewish demonstrators as "a small faction of Zionist hoodlums." Playwright Paddy Cheyevsky, before present ing a screenwriting award, gave Redgrave a bawling out, saying, "Miss Redgrave's winning an academy award is not a pivotal event in history. A simple thank you would have been sufficient." Jason Robards won a supporting actor award for his role in Julia. It was Robard's second Oscar in two years. He won last year for All the President's Men.
