the Republican nomination for governor this month, after
he took an oath saying he could not pay the $400 filing
fee.
A spokesman for Burlington Northern in St. Paul,
Minn., said locomotive engineers are paid an average of
$30,000 a year.
It was the second time Hedrick filed for office without
paying the filing fee and then took a skiing vacation.
In 1976, he filed as a candidate in the 25th Legislative
District against State Sen. Jerome Warner. Hedrick
scribbled on his 1976 filing application that he was pro
testing a state requirement that he pay a $48 filing fee,
or 1 percent of the annual $4,800 legislative salary.
As a result of Hedrick 's 1976 free filing and subsequent
ski vacation, the 1978 Legislature passed a bill to make it
more difficult for persons to run without paying the filing
fee.
State Sen. John Murphy of South Sioux City ac
knowledged he had Hedrick in mind when he introduced
a proposal in LB 233 that will tighten filing requirements.
Psychic gives skeleton location
New York-Dorothy Allison told police that 14-year-old
Susan Jacobson could be found in a marsh area, in
sight of two bridges and an abandoned car, and near the
letters "M," "A and "K.
That was almost two years ago. Susan Jacobson 's skele
ton was found Saturday in a 55-gallon oil drum at the
bottom of a 12-foot shaft in a Staten Island shipyard, jn
an area that fit the psychic's description.
About 200 feet from the shaft, high on a rod. were
the red-painted letters "MAR."
Susan's parents now say police could have saved them
months of anguish if they had only listened to Allison, a
Nutley, NJ., resident whom they say claims she lias
helped the FBI and police find 20 bodies.
"They kept saying we need facts, not psychics," said
Robert Jacobson, the girl's father.
Medical Center union
Omaha-Union efforts to organize University of Ne
braska Medical Center employees are under way,
according to an official of Local 1015, Retail and Profes
sional Employees Union.
David Marrero, union organizing director, said the ef
fort is directed toward all but supervisory personnel and
faculty members.
About 2,500 employees may be affected, he said.
