Omaha stages world premiere ballet
The Omaha Ballet will present a
.... ....v ' IMVJUIdlll
this weekend featuring classical and contemporary dance
plus the world premiere of a work by guest choreographer
James Clouser.
C'louser is founder and director of Space Dance Theater
in Houston. His reputation as a dancer and choreographer
stems from his work with the American Ballet Theater
the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Martha Graham school in
New York, the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, the
Bolshoi in Moscow, the Kirov in Leningrad and the
Houston Ballet.
Suite for Small Spaces is the dance Clouser choreo
graphed tor the Omaha Ballet. Clouser's theory of choreo
graphy is that each dance is created twice: once by the
choreographer and once by the dancer. To aid his
composition Clouser observes the natural movements of
each dancer in order to incorporate each unique character
into his work.
A classical favorite will return to the stage during this
weekend's program. Act II of Swan Lake will be perform
ed for the first time since the Omaha Ballet's successful
October. 1976 production. Katharyn Home will dance the
role of Odette, the beautiful and tragic Queen of the
Swans, and Thomas Knckell will dance the role of Prince
Siegfried. Other dancers will be Wendy Larson, Sharon
