friday, march 3, 1978 daily nebraskan page 9 Omaha stages world premiere ballet The Omaha Ballet will present a .... ....v ' IMVJUIdlll this weekend featuring classical and contemporary dance plus the world premiere of a work by guest choreographer James Clouser. C'louser is founder and director of Space Dance Theater in Houston. His reputation as a dancer and choreographer stems from his work with the American Ballet Theater the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Martha Graham school in New York, the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, the Bolshoi in Moscow, the Kirov in Leningrad and the Houston Ballet. Suite for Small Spaces is the dance Clouser choreo graphed tor the Omaha Ballet. Clouser's theory of choreo graphy is that each dance is created twice: once by the choreographer and once by the dancer. To aid his composition Clouser observes the natural movements of each dancer in order to incorporate each unique character into his work. A classical favorite will return to the stage during this weekend's program. Act II of Swan Lake will be perform ed for the first time since the Omaha Ballet's successful October. 1976 production. Katharyn Home will dance the role of Odette, the beautiful and tragic Queen of the Swans, and Thomas Knckell will dance the role of Prince Siegfried. Hie third part of the program will be Thomas Enckell's Times teps, a composition that won critical praise after its spring 1977 premiere at the Omaha Community Play house. Timcsteps features eleven women dancing to a contemporary electronic music score. Pam Fuxa will be the solo dancer in the piece. The performances will be in Omaha's Orpheum theater at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Grad student to perform The UNL School of Music will sponsor a graduate stu dent recital Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Sheldon Art Gallery auditorium. Vena Beth Genuchi, a graduate student of piano, will play three compositions during her free, public recital.
