Record crowd expected at fair
Get out that two dollar bill you've, been hoarding.
That's, the admission price to the 108th annual Nebraska
State Fair starting Sept. 2 through U at the Lincoln fair
grounds. Henry Brandt, state fair manager, said he expects about
625,000 people to attend the fair, almost 500 more
than last year.. Brandt said he expects more people every,
year. .
"I hope so,' he said, "or we're not doing out job."
For the admission price, visitors . can see Heritage
Village, a tractor-pulling contest, commercial exhibits
and variety shows in the open air auditorium.
Heritage Village includes a restored 19th century
schoolhouse, log cabin and railroad depot..
The tractor-pulling contest will be Sept. 3 through 5
from: 12:30 to 5 p.m. at the racetrack. Prizes totaling
$12,000 go to the tractors that pull the greatest weight
the farthest.
. Farm and sewing machines, pianos and prefabricated
model homes will be exhibited, along with the 4-H Club
and Future Farmers of America livestock, sewing, and
cooking exhibits.
There will be free entertainment daily from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. including dancing, singing and a special program
honoring the Danes. Danish clothing and food will be dis
played. For fifty cents to a dollar, the Murphy Brothers Mile
Long Midway offers rides, sideshows and games. The mid
"'ay opens at 4 p.m. Thursday.

New students and freshmen can pick up the New Stu
dent Information Packets at both Unions, all dean's
offices and the Alumni House, 1520 R St, The packets are
provided by the Student Alumni Board.
Phi Chi Theta officers will meet Thursday at 4 p.m. in
Union 216.
Community Involvement Services needs a volunteer to
be a reader for a blind law student. Some knowledge of
legal terms and research is helpful. Call 472-2484 or con
tact Union 200.
Farm House and Alpha Phi are sponsoring a water
melon feed on the Union Plaza at 4:30 p.m. today.
The International Meditation Society is sponsoring
an introductory lecture on Transcendental Meditation
beginning at 8 p.m. in the Anderson library.
