Quake rocks Italy
Udine, Italy-Strong tremors jolted the
quake-ravaged Frndi area again Wednesday,
knocking down hundreds of bu2d-:gs and
spreading new fear through a land that has
been shaking for more than four months.
At least eight persons were reported dead,
three of them from heart attacks. About
80 persons were injured, many of them
from jumping oat of windows. Rescue
teams started dicing through land and
rock slides Cut reportedly buried several
. cars and two army trucks, posaIy wilh
people trapped inside. Twenty-one tremors
were registered in an eiht-hour period
starting at 5:22 ajn. Two of the predawn
jolts and one before noon surpassed six
points on the Richter scale, approaching
the strength of those thai killed nearly
1,000 persons in Friuli on May 6. Since
May, 241 tremors have been recorded.

San Francso-Roaslynn Carter says she
is sorry abortion has become the number

paign trail. The 49-year-old wife of Denjo
. tratic presidential nominee Jimmy Carter
says she is asked her opinion on abortion
"over and over." Mrs. Carter said, "I am
sorry it has become the main issue in the
campaign because there are so many things

Grant okayed
. Grand Mand-The Community Develop
ment Agency Advisory Board has condi
tionally approved a $200,000 grant for the
Grand Generation Board of Trustees.
Grand Generation is trying to acquire
enough funds to construct a new senior
citizens center here. The approval of the
grant is conditioned on Grand Genera
tion's ability to raise enough money for the
construction by the end of the year. The
new center will cost an estimated
$290,000, and Grand Generation officials
said they have raised only about $13,000.

Union formed
The Nebraska Association of Public
Employes has won an election making it
the exclusive bargaining agent for non
sspcrvisory workers in the State Depart
ment of Roads, NAPE Executive Dir
ector Roger Schulz said Wednesday The
Nebraska Court of Industrial Relations
confirmed that NAPj3 had won a run-off
election with the American Federation of
State, County and Municipal Employes to
represent department maintenance work
ers. In July, NAPE won the right to re
present construction, clerical and tech
nical workers. In that same election, main
tenance workers did not give AFSCME or
NAPE enough votes to claim bargaining
agent rights.

The Nebraska Educational Television
Network will repeat its special program
stressing ways to conserve energy in town
or on the farm. The half hour program,
entitled S&em Home Energy and fea
turing Gov. J. J. Exon, will be repeated
at 6:30 pjn. Saturday and again at 10
pjn. Sept 27.
