Drivers cast 'yes' vote as
jazz flourishes in Lincoln
If you are noticing an increasing number
of Votc for Jazz" bumper stickers, it
shouldn't be surprising. The Lincoln Jazz.
Society is on its way to making life in
Lincoln a bit more interesting.
The Jazz Society is associated with the
Kebraska Arts Council, the Lincoln Arts
Council and the International Jazz Federa
tion. These affiliations have helped make
the following jazz dates at Nebraska
VesIeyan University (NWU) ODonnell
Auditorium possible:
Nov. 9-Modern Jazz Quartet.
Dec. 8 UNL Jazz Ens.mble.
Jan. 20-McCoy Tyner.
April 16 Thad Jones and Mel Lewis.
Season tickets will be available in two
weeks, with discount prices and choice
seating going to Jazz Society members.
Some of the outlets will be Dirt Cheap,
Dietze Music, I lospe's Mr. Music (Lincoln
and Omaha), Audio Systems and Desfen,
ten Simon's (Lincoln and Omaha),
Homer's, Thomsen Music and the UNL and
NWU unions.
In addition, the society and individual
jazz musicians are receiving exposure from
monthly jam sessions at The Zoo (and
sporadic appearances at other local
establishments). Because of this exposure,
several new jazz groups have formed in the
Lincoln area.
The Lincoln Jazz Society will have a
group of musicians playing at the Lincoln
Foundation Gardens, 15th and N streets,
to assist in the opening of the downtown
mall at noon Sept. 9.
The monthly meeting of the Lincoln
Jazz Society is scheduled for S pm. Tues
day at the Greenwich Cafe.
