The Lincoln Jazz. Society is on its way to making life in Lincoln a bit more interesting. The Jazz Society is associated with the Kebraska Arts Council, the Lincoln Arts Council and the International Jazz Federa tion. These affiliations have helped make the following jazz dates at Nebraska VesIeyan University (NWU) ODonnell Auditorium possible: Nov. 9-Modern Jazz Quartet. Dec. 8 UNL Jazz Ens.mble. Jan. 20-McCoy Tyner. April 16 Thad Jones and Mel Lewis. Season tickets will be available in two weeks, with discount prices and choice seating going to Jazz Society members. Some of the outlets will be Dirt Cheap, Dietze Music, I lospe's Mr. Music (Lincoln and Omaha), Audio Systems and Desfen, ten Simon's (Lincoln and Omaha), Homer's, Thomsen Music and the UNL and NWU unions. In addition, the society and individual jazz musicians are receiving exposure from monthly jam sessions at The Zoo (and sporadic appearances at other local establishments). Because of this exposure, several new jazz groups have formed in the Lincoln area. The Lincoln Jazz Society will have a group of musicians playing at the Lincoln Foundation Gardens, 15th and N streets, to assist in the opening of the downtown mall at noon Sept. 9.
