That's what happened to Kosmet Klub, according to Randy Bond, business manager of the now defunct group. Once a prestigious campus organization, Kosmet Klub membership was limited to 18 fraternity members who devoted their time to maintaining the professional aspects of UNL theater productions. The club hired directors, choreographers and set designers to help organize expensive musicals such as Camelot and Cabaret. "We were crazy," said club president Dennis Martin. "There is no way Kosmet Klub could come out ahead producing musicals that required outrageously priced costumes and sets. During the two years in which we produced Camelot and Cabaret, our bank account sky-dived from $30,000 deep into the red." The following year Tommy, a low budget rock opera was performed. "We broke even and a little better," Bond said, adding that they had used a much smaller set for the production. Another rock opera, The Survival of Saint Joan was scheduled for the spring of 1 971-72.-" "Having made a comeback," Bond said, "we spent a bit more again on Survival--and it flopped." He explained why Kosmet Klub had been inactive this year. "First, our membership has declinedSecond, we can't attempt any money earning projects due to lack of man power. "What we need is to find some students who are interested in theatrics," he added. "Kosmet Klub would have a good chance with the right sort of people."
