"Footballs will fill the airways" is an old sports adage
which should typify today's game as 11th tanked Nebraska
faces the 18th ranked University of Kansas Jayhawks in
Dave Jaynes, senior Jayhawk quarterback is the leading
passer in the Big 8 conference. After five games, Jaynes has
completed 79 of 140 passes for a total of 965 yards. He has
thrown only one pass interception and has 8 touchdown passes
to his credit.
Receiving Jaynes' passes will be split end Emmett Edwards
and flanker Bruce Adams. Edwards is the third leading receiver
in the conference with 19 catches for 304 yards and Adams is
the league's fourth leading receiver with 19 catches for 2G8
yaids and six touchdowns.
Nine other returning lettermen will join Jaynes, Adams and
Edwards to form the Jayhawk offense. Providing protection
for Jaynes and blocking for the Jayhawk runners will be an
offensive line which returns two starters from last year.

(tackle) were starters in 1972, but both are regarded among
the best at their positions in the Big 8.
Kansas' backfield will consist of fullback Robert Miller and
tailback Delvin Williams. So far this year, Williams is the
conference's seventh leading rusher with 462 yards in 93
Kansas Head Coach Don Fambrough is optimistic the
Jayhawks may be among the Big Eight's best in the defense
department. The Jayhawks now are ranked fourth in total
defense among conference teams.
Seventeen lettermen return to bolster Kansas' defense. The
defensive line is led by right end Dean Zook and right tackle
Fedro Dillon. After five games, Zook has 26 unassisted tackles
and a total of 39 tackles while Dillon has 15 unassisted tackles
and a total of 31 tackles.
Linebacking chores will be handled by juniors Steve Towle
and Dean Baird. Together, they have combined for 29
unassisted tackles and 58 total tackles.
