Upward Bound, and Every
- Loans reconsidered
A state agency which discontinued its student loan program
last February is "watching the financial scene very carefully"
to decide whether to resume student loans, State Investment
Officer Jim Marbach said Tuesday.
According to Marbach, the issue of student loan programs
will be discussed by the State Investment Council at its
October meeting.
Marbach said his staff is studvinq the status of student loan
programs in other states, but he said he is uncertain when the
study will be presented to the council. The council directed his
office to prepare the study last February.
The council possibly could take action on renewing the
loan program at its next meeting, he said. "However, I would
hate to second guess what the group will do," he added.
The council, which invests long- and shoit-term state and
retirement funds, stopped investing in student loans because
the loans have a high number of defaults, are subject to
floating interest rates and offer no secondary market, Marbach
said.
Workshop features
transactional analysis
Applying the "I'm OK-You're OK" philosophy of
transactional analysis to the classroom will be tho idea behind a
two-day workshop planned for Oct. 4-5 at the Nebraska Center
for Continuing Education.
Transactional analysis, the guide to self-understanding and
better communication between people explained in the best seller
I'm OK You're OK will be taught by four professionals from
Concern Group, Inc., from Washington, D.C.
The workshop will be limited to 60 participants, who will join
in small groups led by professionals to develop skills in
transactional analysis for use in educational settings.
Participants will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
The registration fee of $87.50 must be received by the Nebraska
Center no later than Friday to insure a place in the workshop.
Registration forms can be obtained from the conference
department of the Nebraska Center.
