(Ltj PMIESEAS (WN Program to train community planners Three new courses this fall are the beginning of a graduate program in community and regional planning at UNL. The 60-hour program is designed to train planners, development specialists and administrators able to fill a variety of positions with public agencies, institutions and private business. The program will incorporate a team teaching approach where instructors from various departments will teach the community and regional planning classes for a designated period of time, according to Roger Massey, chairman of the community and regional planning department. The first course, "Urbanism and Planning in the United States,"' is a study of origins and changes in urban and regional planning as it responded to social, political, physical and economic factors. The course will also focus on the components, structure and procedures now used in planning. The prerequisite for the second course, "Planning Process and Theory," is concurrent enrollment or previous completion of the first course. It will concentrate on planning and decision-making processes, techniques for proqrammjng, goal-policy formulation, value hierarchies, decision theory and value of social change. The third course, "Housing Renewal and Development," has the same prerequisite and will study public policies and programs for housing, renewal and large-scale developments and their social, political and environmental implications at the neighborhood, community and regional scale.
