Don't you believe it, because in return for that free ride, that military uniform, you'll be called upon to compromise your basic human dignity by participating in the murder of civilians on the ground by bombing them from the air. Imperialism breeds the mechanism of death which is the Air Force, and it's not just cutting your hair short and wearing a snappy uniform. It is collaboration with a basically inhuman system. The way to humanize the system is by changing it, not by compromising it or going along with it. The AF-ROTC advertisement in the Daily Nebraskan is not an insult to my intelligence, but it's an affront to my sense of humanity. Considering what the Air Force is doing to the people of Vietnam, I would rather see ads for rock music festivals and local bars. The revolution shouldn't mean killing. It should mean a change in our human values and attitudes. The revolution for peace should mean people living, talking and working together to build a better life. I think it can be accomplished by changing our view of militarism to one of disapprobation. Instead of glorifying war, we should end the destruction of man by man forever and everywhere. Militarism is a vicious insult to the morality of humanity. Militarism will promise you a snappy uniform and a free ride, but ultimately it will mean the taking of human life and the sullying of conscience. Don't fall for it. Life is more beautiful than death. Charles Max Dalrymple Dear editor, I have had at least an average amount of exposure to the University faculty, and regardless of whether I liked or disliked any particular faculty member, I have found them to be, with few if any exceptions, deserving of a high degree of respect. It is with regards for this respect that I object to and am revolted by the implications of Regent Prokop's request for a study on, "how the faculty members spend each week." I can't recall a single instance where any faculty member has needlessly wasted time. In their plight against time, they are no better off than a country doctor. They are busy as hell, and they can't plagiarize their work, nor would they wish to, as do some of the less scrupulous people in our community. I also am concerned about Prokop's request for a library use report. If people such as Prokop would quit making nonconstructive attacks on our library, it might be easier for us to get additional resources for our library. What evils Prokop is hoping to find relative to library use are manifestations of his narrow-mindedness. I can't say that I am an authority on library use or how the faculty shouldn't spend their time. But having taken courses in a dozen different departments over four years and having used the library numerous times, I have met authorities in these areas, namely, the librarians and the faculty. They have never appeared to me to be in need of suggestions from Prokop on how to use their time. If Prokop can't think of anything more constructive than expensive and absurd investigations aimed at finding fault in people who are infinitely more competent than him, he ought to resign from the Board of Regents.
