Berg says press not good critic Darrel Berg Tuesday told members of the UNL Sigma Delta Chi chapter that the institutional press is not as critical of an incumbant's political history as it should be. Berg, Democratic challenger for the Nebraska's first' district House of Representatives' seat;' nd. legislative candidate Steve Fowler discussed" their views of the press as newcomers to the political scene. Berg said the press should put more emphasis on an incumbant's voting record during a campaign. Fowler said the belief that news has to be current forces candidates to create news. He said he thought there was "need for more candidate analysis by the press." "You don't have to run comment on whether the (candidate's) votes were good or bad," Fowler said. "Just give them." When asked why the institutional press was not as critical as it could be, Berg said: "Vested interests, economic interests distort its perception." Card pranksters punished? Contrary to a University statement issued over the weekend sources close to several students involved in last week's card section mischief say those involved received little or no punishment from the University Student Affairs office. The release said the students were disciplined for their part in the Nebraska-Missouri game prank. Ken Bader, vice chancellor for student affairs, said in the release that none of those involved are current members of Corn Cobs, the student spirit organization which manages the card section.
