    Exon hints fieldhouse money may be switched
Tax income earmarked for
the University's new fieldhouse
may have to be switched to
finance NU's 1972-73 general
fund appropriation, Gov. J.
James Exon hinted Thursday.
Exon hinted he may tell the
1972 Legislature that the
fieldhouse funds will have to
be used to meet the
University's budget increase
request.
The 1971 Legislature
enacted, over Exon's veto, a
bill boosting the cigarette tax
to 13 cents a pack-a boost of
five cents.

Program Council, the group
that brings most of the films,
speakers, and other programs
to the campus, will be held on

Nebraska Union. Anyone

Friday Nov. 12 in Rm. 128,
Nebraska Union.
The UNL Home Economics
Chapter will have its fall
workshop in the Nebraska
Union from 8:30 a.m. to 12
noon Saturday. There will be a
lunch after the program, "The
Polluter-You?"
All engineering students
interested in an E-Week Board
Committee Chairmanship
should pick up an application
form from their department
office and return it to that
office by Friday, Nov. 12 to 1
p.m. The following
chairmanship are open:
publicity, traffic, pins &
ribbons, high schools,
convocation, contest, field day,
early display, window display,
treasurer, banquet. Interviews
will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12
between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30
p.m. Second floor, Nebraska
Union. Room numbers will be
posted on the Union calendar.

Five ASUN Senate positions
are vacant. The vancies,
including four seats in Teachers
College and one seat in
Graduate-Professional college,
will be filled Wednesday.
Applicants should sign up for
an interview outside ASUN
office, 335 Nebraska Union.
Interviews will be Tuesday
night.
The Free Theatre will
present a mime show, "How an
Unborn Child Got Revenge,"
Friday, Nov. 1 2 and Saturday
Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. and Sunday
Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. in the
Nebraska Union South Crib.
Cost is nothing.
Orchesis, the UNL dance
honorary, will hold a garage
sale bake at 5800 M St. on
November 13 from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. and on November 14
from 1 2 noon to 5 p.m.
International Night culture display
All UNL students have been
invited to take part in
"International Night" and
enjoy an evening of
entertainment at Kimball
Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 19.
The International Club,
sponsoring the evening's
entertainment, will present a
number of native dances set to
exotic instrumental music.
Performing groups will
include: Indian, Ceylonese,
Chinese, Arabian, Japanese,
Philippine, Liberian and Latin
American students, Cornhusker
Co-op and International House.
David Chen, vice-president
of the International Club said
"International Night" will give
the audience a chance to see
the distinct differences in
a history of over 1,000 years.
Chen, from Malaysia,
advised students including
native Nebraska ns, interested
in joining the International
Club to write to the Club at

Earlier this week, State Sen.
Roland Luedtke of Lincoln,
author of the cigarette tax bill,
accused Exon of stalling on the
fieldhouse.
The State Building
Commission headed by Exon
has not yet approved architects
and plans for the new
fieldhouse, even though it has a
statutory duty to do so.
The governor will probably
supply the new Legislature was
his 1972-73 budget and fiscal
views during the first week of
the new Unicameral session.
Exon said he's considering
telling the Legislature that if
the University is to get a
general fund appropriation
near what it wants, there won't
be enough available unless the
senators want "to channel a
substantial portion of the
cigarette tax increase into the
general fund."
