ITNI Asst. Prof. Of
Philosophy Nelson Potter is
pleased with the results of a
free-floating student discussion
in Centennial College recently
of his proposed Council of the
Arts.
Potter said administrators
and faculty dominated his first
meeting earlier in the semester.
The students talked a little
more freely among themselves
at the lounge, he said. He said
faculty and administrators have
a different view point i than
students and it is important to
encourage student input.
Potter said a lot of ideas
were thrown into the
discussion and a lot of
enthusiasm was in the air
among the 35 students present.

students were sincerely
interested and dedicated to the
promotion of the arts.
He said the students agreed
to meet again at Heppner
lounge on Oct. 11 to discuss
the council further. "I suspect
there will be greater
contribution by students on
Oct. 14 when students and
faculty meet again", he said.
"The feeling came up that
President Varner supports the
arts and if we come up with
something good, lots of people
will listen to us at the top",
said Potter.

Potter said UNO is ahead of
UNL in forming an arts
council. The Omaha campus
has already created a paid
half-time position for someone
to study an arts council
formation there.
Potter pointed out an error
