NU Frosh
Tangle in
Team Tilt
Nebraska's freshman basket
ball squad gave a preview of their
talent at the Coliseum Saturday
night.
The star-studded greens de
feated the somewhat lethargic
reds 56-45 in a contest that, while
interesting, grew somewhat dull
its the frosh fumbled and scram
bled across the floor.
Hut the first string of both
teams put up a good scrap, dem
onstrating that they do have po
tentialities. For the greens, the tall blonde
center, Holloway, was the out
handing man on the floor. Good
and Bobby Reynolds at the guard
positions were also looking good
for the winners, particularly at
ball handling.
On the losing team, Stickels, at
guard was particularly impres
sive. He was the high scorer in
the game with 16 points. Snyder
and Reynolds of the greens fol
lowed with 14 each.

Several excellent performances
have come out of the first week
of competition in Intramural's
1949 Indoor Track Meet. An
amazing total of 10 new records
have been established in the pre
liminaries involving four events.
Three of these records came the
first day in the running of the
50 yard dash. Al Hruby, Phi Delta
Hash, set a new fraternity record,
covering the distance in 5.6 sec
onds. Rex Coffman of the Ag
Men's Club established an Inde
pendent record by running it in
5.8 seconds. Glenn Beerline of
Presby House and Thil Brusna
han, Newman Club each own a
part of the Denominational record
after Monday efforts of six sec
onds flat.
Tuesday saw two new records
established in the 60 yard dash.
Chester Scott, Presby House,
turned in record time for the
Denoms clipping off the distance
in 6.8 seconds. Rex Cofnnan took :
his second record in two days,
setting a new Independent mark
at 6.9 seconds.
The best time of the day, how
ever, was not a record breaking
time. Bill Mueller, Sigma Chi.
came to within 110 second of the;
fraternity and all-time record j
with a blazing time (f 6.6 seconds.
Four Tic for Hurdles Record
Records in all three classes
were posted Wednesday in the
prelims of the low hurdles in the
first year this even has been hold. I
In the race of the day, two
former high school champs of the I
hurdles ran a dead heat. Dan !
Tolman of Indianola, running for
Dorm A and Blake Cathro of j
Omaha Central, running for Stu-1
dent Union put on a great race:
to establish the best mark of the
day, 7.8 seconds and an Inde
pendent record.
Glenn Beerline, also a high
school star in the lows, equalled
Tollman's and Cathro's mark in
establishing his second Denom
record for Presby House. Junior
Collopy, Alpha Tau Omega, also
turned in a 7.8 time for the fraternities.
