49-35 Defeat
Oklahoma University's swim
ming team won five first places
as the Sooners splashed to vie
tory .over Nebraska's tankmen
Saturday night at Norman, 49-35.
Marvin Grimm, Husker ace,
was the leading individual per
former. Grimm won two first
places and anchored the 440-yard
relay for a total of 11 points.
Nebraska's other two firsts
came in the one-meter diving
and 220-yard breast stroke. The
Huskers' Roger Moore took the
number one spot in the diving,
and Gould Flagg grabbed second.
Conrad King came home ahead of
the crowd to win the breast
stroke event.

handed Nebraska's specialists their
third strafght defeat Saturday
night in Minneapolis by outpoint
ing the Huskers, 77Vfe-49Vfc.
Phil Sprague was the Nebras-
kan's top scorer as he captured
two firsts, a second, two thirds, a
fifth and placed third in the in
dividual all-around standings. Leo
Geier of Nebraska grabbed a third,
one fourth and a fourth-place tie
and two fifths. Leo placed fourth
in the all-around standings.
George Patten paced the Gopher
squad. He took two firsts, two
seconds and a third and placed
first In the all-around standings.

Joe Verdeur of LaSalle college,
Philadelphia, and Allen Stack,
Yale captain, bettered world's
swimming records lost week in the
sixteenth annual Yale swimming
carnival.
Verdeur swam the 200-meter
braast stroke in 2 minutes 32 sec
onds, three seconds better than
his own mark for that distance.
He also lowered his American
record of 2:35.6, by two seconds
Stack lowered the 400-meters
international back stroke mark by
racing the distance in 5:03.9. The
Yale captain also bettered Michi
gan's Harry Holliday's 440-yard
American record. Stack's time was
5:06, five and .six-tenths seconds
faster than the Michigan aces
tima.

Wally Ris, Iowa University star,
also contributed to the week's
record - breaking. . performances
The Hawkeye swimmer cracked
the 220-yard free style national
collegiate mark by swimming that
distance in 2 minutes 13.7 seconds.
The Iowa swimming star also
claimed a new American record
in the 100-yard free style with
a 51.9 seconds performance against
Minnesota lastweek. The mark
bettered the 52-second American
record set by Johnny Weismuller,
Illinois A. C, Aug. 1, 1925 in
Seattle, Washington.

In Close Meet
The University of Oklahoma
freshman track team won a postal
meet from the University of Ne
braska - by one-third of a point
Coach Ed Weir announced Mon
day.
Oklahoma scored 50 points and
Nebraska. 49 2-3. There was but
one pole vault contstant, Leonard
Kehl of Nebraska, which meant
that only five points were awarded
in this event. Kehl cleared 13 feet
A inch.
Jimmy .Smith of Oklahoma was
the high point maker with a total
of 21 7-12 points. Smith scored
four firsts, winning the 60-yard
highs, 60-yeard lows and the high
jump and broad jump. He tied for
third m the 60-year dash and ran
a leg on the, winning relay team
Bill Mountford of Nebraska was
second in scoring with 15 points
He took firsts in the mile, quarter
mile and half mile.
Esref Aydin, Nebraska's tireless
lurk, had the too time- of the 2
milers with 9:59.7.
