NOMAN, Okla. Two runs in
the tenth inning gave the Univer
sity of Nebraska baseball team a
5 to 3 win over Coach Jack Baer's
Oklahoma Sooners here Friday
afternoon.
Husker shortstop Bob Grogen
came through with a single in the
lirst extra inning to send Jim
Sharp and Elroy Gloystein across
the plate with the winning runs.
By virtue of the victory Nebraska
remained undefeated in Big Six
competition.
Gloystein Wins.
Gloystein, Utica southpaw, was
on the mound all the way for Ne
braska and kept the Sooners well
in hand. Although giving up 10

Three Events
At Kansas Relays
Nebraska's outdoor track team
came across with two wins and
a tie for first at the Kansas Re
lays held under threatening skies
Saturday afternoon at Lawrence.
Harry Meginnis made a sur
prising leap of 22 feet 6l inches
to place first in the broad jump
contest. Meginnis was a dark
horse entrant whom Coach Eld
Weir sprung for the first time in
the current outdoor track season.
.Defending javelin champ Herb
Grote repeated last year's top
performance with a winning toss
of 189 feet 10 in.
Lanky Monte Kinder's high'
jump of 6 feet 14 in. was good
enough to tie for first place.
Kinder also tied for first in his
event at the Texas Relays this
season.
The Scarlet's distance medley
relay team ran third. Bad
weather hampered all performances.
The Oklahoma baseball team
handed the Huskers their first
loss in Big Six competition, in i
a close 9-8 came Saturday at
Norman.
was tough in the pinches and
fanned seven batters. He did not
walk a man, a remarkable feat in
a game played in a high wind.
Nebraska rot off to an early
lead when three runs crossed the
platter in the third inning. Fritz
Ilegwcod and Wes Maser were on
the base paths when Catcher Or
ville Schmeiding dropped a loop
ing fly behind first base which
went for a safe hit scoring both
runners.
Two errors by Bill Denker, Ne
braska third baseman, let in two
Oklahoma tallies in the Sooners'
half of the fourth frame. Oklaho
ma got another marker in the
seventh inning when Red Deal
singled and came home on a sin
gle by Catcher Johnny Chyz.
Missouri Next.
Following the Oklahoma series
the Huskers move to Missouri for
a pair of contests with the Tigers
on Monday and Tuesday. Coach
Tony Sharpe's nine will make its
next home start against Iowa
State Cyclones early in May.

Softball Teams
Begin League
Action Monday
Another major sport is to be
added to the already crowded
schedule of intramural activity
next week.
The Softball season gets under
way Monday with three games on
top for the opening day. Many
teams have been holding regular
workouts either in vacant lots or
on the diamonds available at the
west side of the Coliseum, giving
promise to some closely played
ballgames.
All teams are reminded that
each team is to furnish one official
for its game and that all games
will go seven innings unless both
teams agree to different terms.
Five Minutes.
All games will start promptly at
5 with both teams given no more
than a five minute limit for being
late. Tho many games are sched
uled for 5, many of the contests
will be twilight affairs with the
first 6:30 games being played on
Tuesday.
Monday's games will pit Brown
Palace against Beta Theta Pi, Kap
pa Sigma against Sigma Nu, and
Farm House against Theta Xi.
Scrimmage
Washed Out
By Downpour
Water polo activity is confined
to the intramural sports program,
so the scheduled football scrim
mage between teams chosen from
the Cornhusker srring practice
squad was cancel eld.
No Help.
Slated for Saturday afternoon
on the varsity gridiron, the grid
iron activity was first shifted to
the fast-draining freshman field,
but when the rain refused to re
lent, despite baleful glares from
all members of the Nebraska
coaching staff, head coach Bernie
Masterson regretfully called off
the contact work.
With only two more weeks of
spring practice available, the
the Husker headman is anxious
to give his charges more testing
under actual game conditions. The
spring squad has been divided into
four teams, the Crusaders, Rene
gades, Hatfields and McCoys, for
the scrimmage which will prob
ably will be held next week.
