Two runs in the tenth inning gave the Univer sity of Nebraska baseball team a 5 to 3 win over Coach Jack Baer's Oklahoma Sooners here Friday afternoon. Husker shortstop Bob Grogen came through with a single in the lirst extra inning to send Jim Sharp and Elroy Gloystein across the plate with the winning runs. By virtue of the victory Nebraska remained undefeated in Big Six competition. Gloystein Wins. Gloystein, Utica southpaw, was on the mound all the way for Ne braska and kept the Sooners well in hand. Although giving up 10 hi s, on more than the Scarlet b:i -men could collect off the sk 's of John Venable, Gloystein Ncbraskans Win Three Events At Kansas Relays Nebraska's outdoor track team came across with two wins and a tie for first at the Kansas Re lays held under threatening skies Saturday afternoon at Lawrence. Harry Meginnis made a sur prising leap of 22 feet 6l inches to place first in the broad jump contest. Meginnis was a dark horse entrant whom Coach Eld Weir sprung for the first time in the current outdoor track season. .Defending javelin champ Herb Grote repeated last year's top performance with a winning toss of 189 feet 10 in. Lanky Monte Kinder's high' jump of 6 feet 14 in. was good enough to tie for first place. Kinder also tied for first in his event at the Texas Relays this season. The Scarlet's distance medley relay team ran third. Bad weather hampered all performances. The Oklahoma baseball team handed the Huskers their first loss in Big Six competition, in i a close 9-8 came Saturday at Norman. was tough in the pinches and fanned seven batters. Oklaho ma got another marker in the seventh inning when Red Deal singled and came home on a sin gle by Catcher Johnny Chyz. Missouri Next. Following the Oklahoma series the Huskers move to Missouri for a pair of contests with the Tigers on Monday and Tuesday. Coach Tony Sharpe's nine will make its next home start against Iowa State Cyclones early in May. Xebraka. B K R O K Softball Teams Begin League Action Monday Another major sport is to be added to the already crowded schedule of intramural activity next week. The Softball season gets under way Monday with three games on top for the opening day. Many teams have been holding regular workouts either in vacant lots or on the diamonds available at the west side of the Coliseum, giving promise to some closely played ballgames. All teams are reminded that each team is to furnish one official for its game and that all games will go seven innings unless both teams agree to different terms. Five Minutes. All games will start promptly at 5 with both teams given no more than a five minute limit for being late. Tho many games are sched uled for 5, many of the contests will be twilight affairs with the first 6:30 games being played on Tuesday. Monday's games will pit Brown Palace against Beta Theta Pi, Kap pa Sigma against Sigma Nu, and Farm House against Theta Xi. Scrimmage Washed Out By Downpour Water polo activity is confined to the intramural sports program, so the scheduled football scrim mage between teams chosen from the Cornhusker srring practice squad was cancel eld. Slated for Saturday afternoon on the varsity gridiron, the grid iron activity was first shifted to the fast-draining freshman field, but when the rain refused to re lent, despite baleful glares from all members of the Nebraska coaching staff, head coach Bernie Masterson regretfully called off the contact work. With only two more weeks of spring practice available, the the Husker headman is anxious to give his charges more testing under actual game conditions. The spring squad has been divided into four teams, the Crusaders, Rene gades, Hatfields and McCoys, for the scrimmage which will prob ably will be held next week. Six Volleyball Teams Earn Playoff Spots The water polo season which has been in action for several weeks, will go into the playoff stage in which the top two teams in each of the three fraternity leagues will fight it out for the top positions in final standings. In league I Delta Unsilon and Alpha Tan Omega seem to have things well In hand and will be the entries from that circuit.. The other winners are Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Gamma Delta champions of their leagues and Kappa Sigma and Sigma Nu the runnerupc in Leagues IL and III. Along with water polo, volley ball has also been going a hot pace as teams ready themselves for playoff action which will follow after the regular season is con cluded.
