If he returns to school and the football team, Ne braska stock will rise, for Ath.y will be remembered as a vicious blocker and powerful runner. His presence in the backfield would enable "Potsy" Clark to field a potent quartet of ball-carriers. More good news is the arrival ef Willard Bunker, end on the same squad, who returned to the team Monday after a stay in the army. Bunker will add experi ence and savvy to the end can didates, while the potential pres ence of Athey will produce a hard-driving backfield quarter this fall. Oklahoma fans will receive a direct play by play report of Saturday's game, as Curt Gowdy, sports reporter for radio station KOMA of Oklahoma City, will be on hand to broadcast the tussle. In addition to KOMA, station KTUL of Tulsa and station WNAD, the university station at Norman, will carry Gowdy's de scription. Directing the Nubbins In last Saturday's scrimmage was Gerry Kathol, member of the Rose Bowl squad whs Is back in school. The Hartington, Neb., athlete has used up his three years of varsity com petition, or he would be a valu able addition to Totsy Clark's '45 grid machine. Information concerning the Oklahoma team was furnished to the Husker coaching staff by di rector of student physical wel fare, Lou Means, who scouted the Sooners last Saturday as they subdued the Hondo Air Field. The Oklahoma attack features variations of the T formation, with speedy break-away runners always a scoring threat. While Nebraska and Oklahoma meet in the first Big Six confer ence battle of the year, Missouri will be facing another powerful Big Ten aggregation when they meet Ohio State at Columbus. The ail-civilian Kansas State eleven opens their season against the newest Missouri Valley mem ber, Wichita, while Kansas op poses Denver in the Rocky Moun tain city on' Friday night. Iowa . In ad dition to the trophy or medals usually presented, this winner's name, individual or team, will be inscribed on a plaque which will be put on display in the lobby of the coliseum. Lou Means, director of student physical welfare, declared in an nouncing the plan, that past rec ords have been examined and all winners of intramural competition in years gone by will be included on the plaques. Each sport will have a separate plaque and no ef fort has been spared in attempting to complete the lists of past record holders and winners in Nebraska intramural competition. In addition to these record plaques, university swimming rec ords will be put on record boards which will be installed on the walls of the pool in the coliseum basement. Three boards will be displayed; one showing all-time intercollegiate records, one of all time intramural records, and a third exhibiting marks established by freshmen. From then until October 29, practices will be held twice a week, and on the 29th, official practice ses sions began with afternoon prac tices from 4 to 6. Suits may be checked out in the varsity dressing room in the coliseum basement on September 25 and 26, with candidates urged to furnish their own basketball shoes until a shipment ordered by the university arrives. Three Veterans Back. Three veterans of past Nebraska basketball seasons were on hand at a preliminary meeting held on Thursday for interested track and basketball prospects. Bert Gissler, Osceola tall boy, of years ago and Bob Tangeman and Fred Hecox, navy dental students and squad members last season, aided ath letic director Lewandowski, "Pop" Klein, track Coach Ed Weir and "Chili" Armstrong with the meet ing.
